Attijariwafa bank accredited by the UN Green Climate Fund
Attijariwafa bank was officially accredited at the 22nd meeting of the board of directors of the Green Climate Fund (GCF) organized on February 26, 27 and 28 2019 in South Korea, "after a thorough due diligence by the GCF aimed at ensuring that the group has procedures and experience necessary to finance green projects in partnership with the institution. ", announced a press release from the bank.
Attijariwafa bank thus becomes the only commercial bank in Africa and the MENA region, as well as the 7th commercial bank worldwide to obtain this accreditation with regional coverage.
The accreditation will allow the bank to work in partnership with the Fund to support its public and private clients in their sustainable development projects on the African continent, through co-financing or investment guarantees, which may exceed USD 250 million per project.
As a reminder, the United Nations Green Climate Fund (GCF) is a Global Fund created by the 194 signatories to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) in 2010. Its objective is to achieve the transfer of funds from the most advanced countries to the most vulnerable countries in order to set up projects to combat the effects of climate change.
